BURANO Version 1.1

Scheduled for release later this month, the BURANO version 1.1 update will provide support for live event streaming and production, as well as a 1.5x de-squeeze display when using anamorphic lenses.

The update will also introduce S700 protocol support over Ethernet, enabling remote control when using an RCP panel. Sony will also add controls for adjusting exposure, white balance, and other settings via RCP, and introduce Multi Matrick Area indication with targeted adjustment of colors.

Furthermore, BURANO version 1.1 will provide support for Sony’s Monitor and Control app, which can control up to four cameras using a tablet.

It will also include monitoring features such as waveform, histogram, false color, zebras, focus control, frame rate control, ND filter, and more. The Sony Monitor and Control App is available for both iOS and Android devices.

BURANO Version 2.0

In the Spring of 2025, Sony will release version 2.0, which will add more recording formats such as full frame crop in 3.8K at up to 120 fps in 16:9 mode.

The camera will also support Super 35mm options of 4.3K in 4:3 Anamorphic up to 60 fps, and 1.9K 16:9 widescreen mode at up to 240 fps. Sony also plans to support 1.8x de-squeeze with higher frame rates from 66-120 fps.

Standardized SDI video output for monitoring using X-OCN and XAVC formats will also be featured, along with an improved on-screen display of camera status.

Sony will also include viewfinder gamma display assist while using S-Log 3 for monitoring, additional exposure tools borrowed from the Venice camera system for high/low key, and additional presets for white balancing in a variety of lighting conditions.

Finally, the BURANO will provide expanded active high image stabilization in full-frame 6K and Super 35 widescreen at 1.9K modes, along with breathing compensation and image stabilization metadata when captured in X-OCN format.

The BURANO Version 1.1 firmware update will be available in late June 2024, and the Version 2.0 update will be released in March 2025. Users can download the updates from the Sony BURANO support website.
